Associated Food Stores

Food Tech installs inventory management systems.

Client Objectives:

To meet their current demand, Associated Food Stores needed a new 120,000 sf Cooler expansion on their existing property.

Value Delivered:

Originally, Associated Food Stores came to Food Tech with plans for a new, conventional 120,000 sf Cooler expansion with 32’ clear height. Food Tech developed a unique design that utilized AFT’s ASRS Stacker Cranes, resulting in a considerable reduction of the overall square footage. By shrinking the building from 120,000 sf to 60,000 sf with a 60’ clear height, the construction cost savings (less foundation, less roof, etc.) paid for the Automated Cranes. In addition, Associated Food Stores continues to receive a yearly return due to labor savings.

Scope of Services:

Food Tech developed an innovative, cost savings design and provided all aspects of the Design/Build processes for this 52,000 square As/RS Cooler Addition.

Solutions:

As part of this Cooler expansion project, Food Tech delivered the following:

  • Four Cranes AS/AR (60‘ Height)
  • Mezzanine Selection
  • Rotating Fork Cranes (No “slave pallets” required).
  • High Volume, Mixed Commodity Selection - 22% of total facility volume
  • AS/RS moves completed selected pallets with no elevator
  • Special Order Mini-Load System

Background:

By leveraging the use of technology -- ASRS Stacker Cranes for Full Pallet putaway—coupled with the SF savings, we were able to cost justify the cranes with the SF savings. We also utilized a Miniload system for slow movers. Both of these technologies yielded a much lower yearly labor cost.
