Tony's Fine Foods - Sacramento, CA

Professional construction management and refrigeration engineering were used in all of the projects on this 300,000+ square-foot specialty food distribution center.

Over the years, Tony’s Fine Foods Inc. (Tony’s) has required a variety of expansions and renovations on their 300,000+ square-foot specialty food distribution center in Sacramento, CA. Whether it was for cold storage construction, food inventory management systems, or employee amenity expansions, Tony’s repeatedly turned to Food Tech for outstanding design-build services.

Food Tech’s integrated approach to the facility’s design and planning was major highlight of the expansion projects. After analyzing Tony’s stock keeping units (SKUs) and product movement, Food Tech combined conventional expansion plans with an automated expansion plan, in order to optimize material handling. This approach allowed them to incorporate a cutting-edge automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) hi-rise freezer into the building by raising the building’s height. The 60’ tall freezer has an automated fork truck capable of full pallet put-away and let-down, which helps maximize the efficient flow of labor and materials throughout the facility.

Significant cold storage construction also went into the work performed at the distribution center. The facility’s refrigerated dock was expanded, -10°F freezer zones were added, and an industrial refrigeration system was installed. Food Tech utilized advanced refrigeration engineering throughout these projects to help ensure Tony’s was able to maintain precise temperature control in every part of the plant.

Food Tech performed all of the work on a fast-track basis, using cost-effective construction methods and professional construction management. Throughout the projects, Food Tech delivered the following:

  • Fast-track, design-build services
  • Material handling design and refrigeration engineering
  • Integration of automated and conventional expansion plans
  • 60’ ASRS hi-rise freezer with full pallet put-away and let-down
  • Cold storage construction featuring an ammonia refrigeration central system
  • 34°F refrigerated docks and -10°F freezer zones
  • Photovoltaic solar panels for reduced energy usage
