Value Delivered
Food Tech was selected to help locate, design, and construct a new distribution center due to our facility planning and management expertise.
Our facility sizing decisions, based on pick and reserve slot requirements, helped optimize the flow of labor and materials.
Additionally, our highly-efficient ammonia refrigeration system solution enabled precise control over multiple temperature and humidity zones facility-wide.
Client Objectives
As part of expanding their network of retail and distribution facilities to effectively enter the Mid-Atlantic region, Wegmans needed site selection and design-build services for a new grocery distribution center.
Solutions
Food Tech’s team of logistics engineers provided site selection services to help Wegmans determine the ideal location near Harrisburg, PA.
We chose a 100-acre tract in Pottsville and performed master site planning to develop a strategy for a new full-line (dry groceries, perishables, frozen foods) distribution center.
The completed 125,000-square-foot facility features cutting-edge industrial engineering and advanced material handling design. Our solutions for this project included:
- Facility sizing
- Pressurized banana ripening rooms
- Double-sided docks for shipping and receiving
- 5,000-square-foot security building
- 20,000-square-foot employee amenity building with overhead bridges to warehouse and docks
- Cold storage construction featuring an ammonia refrigeration central system
